A couple of days ago, actress Shwetha Basu was arrested for indulging in prostitution along with a businessman in Hyderabad. Her pimp Balu was also arrested in the raid conducted by the Hyderabad Police department.
Shweta Basu Prasad is an Indian film actress. She started her career as a child actress in Hindi films and Television series and went on to play lead roles in Bengali,Telugu and Tamil cinema. For her performance in the 2002 film Makdee, she won the National Film Award for Best Child Artist.
In 2002, Prasad started her acting career as a child actress at the age of 11. She enacted dual roles as Chunni and Munni in the film Makdee, directed by Vishal Bhardwaj and got the National Film Award for Best Child Artist for the same. As a child artist, she also acted in the Star Plus series Kahani Ghar Ghar Ki as Shruti, Parvati and Oms daughter, and in soap operas like Karishma Kaa Karishma.
In 2005, she starred in the film Iqbal, which propelled her to mini stardom and got subsequent film offers. Her performance as Khadija in the film, fetched her several accolades including the Best Supporting Actress Award at the 5th Karachi International Film Festival. The following year, she acted in Ram Gopal Varma's Darna Zaroori Hai as Ashu. In 2008, she debuted in Telugu cinema and played her first starring role in the film Kotha Bangaru Lokam, co-starring Varun Sandesh. The film became a large commercial success.

Basu is not an actress who did not the kind of actress who could not find any taker in the film industry and end up resorting to prostitution to make a living, Debuting as a child artiste in a Bollywood film ‘Chunni and Munni’, she won the National award for Best Child actress in her debut film itself. She went on to act as a child artiste in many other Bollywood films and eventually became a heroine. She starred in a few Telugu films as heroine and also in Tamil film ‘Ra Ra’, ‘Ragalai’ and ‘Chandamama’. An actress who has not stopped getting film offers getting arrested for prostitution has shocked many. Sadly, it will be tough for her to get any further offer to act in films since she has been caught red-handed for indulging in flesh trade and her image among the people has been spoiled.
Basu has now been sent to a rehabilitation center for women. Speaking to Andhra Media, she has said she was running short of money at one point of time when she had to spend money for a good cause. People misguided her that indulging in prostitution will give her more money and pushed her into it. Once entering she could not come out of it Basu also revealed that there are many such women artists who have been pushed into prostitution and have been trapped into it.
