If you’re a part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe fandom, chances are you’ve probably heard the jokes about the perfection of Marvel’s casting. There are even incredibly scientific theories positing that Marvel creates some of their actors in a lab, waiting to use them at the right time as the perfect characters. Although the jury’s still out on that one, here’s some more totally scientific evidence that the MCU actors are their characters.
Chris Hemsworth as Thor
Hemsworth’s early childhood consisted of moving back and forth between Melbourne and an aboriginal community in Australia’s Outback. He’s big, handsome and blonde while also being intelligent and hilarious. One-hundred percent Thor.
Cobie Smulders as Maria Hill
For the part of Maria Hill, Cobie Smulders trained extensively, learning to use guns and prepping for stunt work. She’s confident, strong and dedicated: a perfect fit for Maria.
Jeremy Renner as Clint Barton
In addition to running a home renovation business and being a former makeup artist, Jeremy Renner is sometimes funny, sometimes stoic, just like Clint Barton.
Anthony Hopkins as Odin
Anthony Hopkins chews the scenery as Odin, and he’s clearly loving every minute of it. Perfect casting!y minute of it. Perfect casting!
Mark Ruffalo as Bruce Banner
Writer-director Joss Whedon says it best: “That’s the thing about Mark Ruffalo, he doesn’t look like a guy who couldn’t hurt a fly, he looks like a guy who has decided not to hurt a fly.”
Scarlett Johansson as Natasha Romanoff
Scarlet Johansson is beautiful, tough and constantly challenging journalists who ask her sexist questions. Her Natasha isn’t too far from what we often see of her own personality, especially during her unexpected bouts of silliness.
Tom Hiddleston as Loki
Tom Hiddleston is sweet and sincere one minute, then sexy and charming the next. He definitely has the many faces of Loki down.
Samuel L. Jackson as Nick Fury
Samuel L. Jackson is totally a no-nonsense leader, serious and stern with a definite humor streak. (Plus the nod to Pulp Fiction on Fury’s fake tombstone in Captain America: The Winter Soldier was priceless.)
Chris Evans as Steve Rogers
It’s pictures like this one and one of Evans sweeping on the set in his Captain America costume that make him seem as sincere and kind-hearted as his alter ego Steve Rogers.
Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark
This one’s a no-brainer. Is he RDJ playing Tony Stark or Tony Stark playing RDJ? The world may never know.
