Just say the word!
Former WWE Superstar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson is officially joining the DC Comics world staring in the the DC’s upcoming Shazam film.
Johnson was in Mexico this weekend promoting his film Hercules, when he confirmed to reporters that he would indeed star in DC Comics’ Shazam film. Johnson went on to say that he has not yet decided whether he will be playing the film’s title character Shazam or the film’s key villain Black Adam.
For those unfamiliar with the Shazam franchise, the Shazam series tells the story of Billy Batson, a young boy who is turned into a super-powered adult when he says a magic word. Black Adam on the other hand is an ancient Egyptian predecessor of Shazam, who becomes corrupted by his powers creating one of the DC Comics’ most powerful villains.
Fawcett Comics first debuted Shazam in 1939, with the franchise becoming increasingly popular. With its likeliness to DC’s Superman, DC Comics sued Fawcett Comics for copyright infringement and the comic was quickly shut down. DC Comics later acquired the comic and re-launched the franchise in 2011.
